History
Designed
to meet a specification for the Ministry of Agriculture
and Forestry in the USSR, the first flight of an An-2
was made in 1947. License rights were given to the Chinese
in 1957, where limited production still continues today.
By 1960, more than 5000 An-2s had been built in the Soviet
Union. From that time on, production continued primarily
in Poland, where they built and exported aircraft to almost
20 countries.
Probably
the largest single-engine biplane produced, it still is
a great and dependable workhorse. It was used for hauling
passengers and cargo, parachute jumping, crop spraying,
photography, surveying and could be mounted on wheels,
skis or floats.
